TAP — percussion based dance by using the sounds of metal taps affixed to the heel and toe of shoes striking the floor; intricate rhythms and weight shifting ovements make this a favorite style of many.
[preschool through adult]
BALLET — a classical dance form demanding grace and precision and employing formalized steps and gestures set in intricate, flowing patterns. A foundation of all dance styles, ballet is always a recommended style with which to start
[preschool through HS]
POINTE — a ballet technique that involves dancing on the tips of the toes. It is performed in pointe shoes and is one of the most iconic elements of ballet. Pointe technique encompasses both the mechanical and artistic aspects of pointe work, including body alignment, placement of the feet, and the manner in which a dancer transitions to and from en pointe.
PRE-POINTE — a required first class designed for those who are at least 12-13 years old starting out with pointe (and who have teacher permission). It’s understood that those enrolled in pre-pointe will not perform in pointe shoes in recital unless specifically instructed.
JAZZ — a style of dance characterized by syncopation, improvisation and forceful rhythm. One of our most popular styles we offer starting in 1st grade.
HIP HOP — a range of street styles primarily performed to hip hop music and although not as much technique is taught, it’s a great alternative to jazz and very popular.
[intro class starts at age 6]
LYRICAL — a mixture of ballet, jazz and contemporary technique. A strong ballet background is helpful but not required. Movements are fluid and graceful while also being strong and expressive. New for 2023-2024: we’re also offering this style as young as 3rd grade!
MODERN/CONTEMPORARY — modern and contemporary dance focus on serious expression of inner emotions, using a free-flowing, interpretive style rather than rigid rules of many other styles. We offer modern as young as 1st grade!
ACRO (starting at age 6; see below for more information) — starting with 2023-2024 we are offering acro for dance. We have two levels of this class and enrollment in level 2 requires teacher permission after successful mastering of level 1. (every student must start with acro I) We’ll focus on basic acro movements, strength training and flexibility while also learning intermediate and advanced dance based tricks. *Miss Jessica is an Acrobatic Arts certified instructor!
POMS (see below for more information)— new for 2024! A class designed to introduce dancers to proper jazz dance technique while including the sharp and synchronized movements and visual effects of working with pom pons.
[1st-4th or 5th-8th grade]
CROCHET CLUB
Come hang out with Miss Lindsay & work on your crochet projects or learn and perfect your technique!
We’ll have limited yarn and hooks available to borrow or you may bring your own supplies & projects.
Cost is a drop-in fee of $15 per week or $55 for 4 consecutive weeks. Crochet club meets Tuesdays from 4:00-5:00pm
POMS
We are still finalizing policies for poms classes.
As of July, 2024:
–Poms classes will learn routines that can be performed in parades & outreach opportunities throughout the year. They’ll also learn a routine for the recital.
–Participation in any performance will require a specific outfit that will be announced at a later date. As close as we can, the cost of the poms ‘uniform’ will be comparable to that of a recital costume & will be what they wear on stage as well as in parades and any outreach performances. For class, students will need black jazz shoes. (Tentatively: For outside performances, students will need white street shoes)
–The poms that students use in class belong to ATD and will remain at the studio.
ACRO Attendance policy:
Any student who has missed 3 or more consecutive acro classes will have to be re-tested or be placed back in acro 1 until they can test back into acro 2. We want everyone to progress & achieve their goals and they can’t do that if they’re not attending class regularly. Thank you for your understanding!
